Knowledge, Imam Ghazali says – the goal of the Sufi – is that which supports life to such an extent that if its transmission were to be interrupted for three days the kernel of the individual dies, as someone would die if deprived of food, or a patient dies if deprived of medicine.

Dhun-Nun the Egyptian said, 'You can accompany our caravan only if you can first accept two things. One is that you will have to do things which you do not want to do. The other is that you will not be permitted to do things you desire to do. It is 'wanting' which stands between man and the Path of Truth. '
